Phantom Limb are a refreshing and timely reminder of what country and soul music can and should be.
Yolanda, Stew, Dan, Andy, Luke and Matt have settled into a stride that's yielded a critically acclaimed, self-titled debut album and a growing list of memorable shows in the UK, Europe and the USA. There are not many bands that individually display such musical empathy with one another. Simple, enchanting music with this much integrity is hard to find, but so easy to fall in love with when you do.
The influences are clear but subtle – Gillian Welch, Aretha Franklin, The Band, Etta James, The Staple Singers. Phantom Limb delicately conveys the same disarming honesty that only comes from singing about the truth.
Yolanda's incredible voice and lyrics can – and probably will – bring a tear to your eye with a cocktail of hope and resignation, sadness and joy.
All the band members have written, recorded or toured with multi-platinum selling artists. Massive Attack, Will Young and Pee Wee Ellis to name but a few.
Phantom Limb have performed at many festivals including Glastonbury, WOMAD and SXSW. Support tours have included Candi Staton, Solomon Burke, The Avett Brothers and more recently Rumer.
A direct result of so much time spent on the road is the album "Live In Bristol".
Performed and recorded in front of an ecstatic home crowd, the record is proof that Phantom Limb are a formidable live act.
There is much more to come from Phantom Limb, including their highly anticipated second album. Recording took place this year at Compound Studios, California, USA. Produced by Marc Ford (The Black Crowes, Ben Harper , Ryan Bingham) and featuring special guest Greg Leisz (Robert Plant, Emmylou Harris, Beck, etc.) the album is a stunning example of graceful songwriting and gutsy production.
