I like surprises.

Tonight it was Petra Haden, daughter of jazz bassist Charlie Haden and a member of The Decemberists. Turns out she's some kind of acapella Jedi, and yeah, you've heard her work.

Ever hear that Glee cover of "Don't Stop Believing"? Inspired (if not stolen) by Petra's version. Those Prius commercials? Petra. She's even a coach on NBC's The Sing Off.

Best of all, she recorded a FULL acapella cover of The Who's "The Who Sell Out." The entire album. Pete Townsend himself wrote:

"I was a little embarrassed to realize I was enjoying my own music so much, for in a way it was like hearing it for the first time. What Petra does with her voice, which is not so easy to do, is challenge the entire rock framework ... When she does depart from the original music she does it purely to bring a little piece of herself -- and when she appears she is so very welcome. I felt like I'd received something better than a Grammy."

Pete Townsend? A personal fan? Really? And now on stage with Susanna Hoffs?

Yeah, I think I have a bit of a crush on this girl.
