Perkasie is the crashing musical vehicle of Alex Wash. Enjoy.

"Easy comparisons would be Woody Guthrie, Simon and Garfunkel, or Bright Eyes' countrified Cassadaga, but the natural chemistry and playfulness among the band members foster a comforting aura that's hard to pre-manufacture."-Impose

".So if you get a chance to see Perkasie live, do it. You’ll get to be one of the people that says, “I saw them when . . . . ,” and you’ll get to be a part of their story. Plus, you’ll be tapping your toes and spinning in circles. With their sense of musical history, their talent, their obvious affection for each other, these guys will be begging description for years to come. Let’s hope they continue to defy it."

The mostly Lancaster–based quintet Perkasie have been compared to Bright Eyes more than once, which is way off. Rather, these kids' bubblegum baroque–folk is much more in line with Philly's excitable Bee Team and Extraordinaires. For proof, dig the boisterous boy–girl vocals and saloon–style piano on "Down by the Riverside" and the old–timey swagger and wartime imagery of their best song, "The Fightin' 13th." "Ginger Sobs" is pretty great too, a happy–go–lucky hoedown belying darker lyrics ("And I can hear my mother crying/ The ginger sobs in perfect time"). Led so energetically by singer/pianist Alex Wash and Philly–based songwriter Kate Foust, Perkasie are most certainly ready for prime time. -Doug Wallen, Philadelphia Weekly

One of our favorite new local discoveries is Perkasie based out of Lancaster. Described by the Philly Weekly as "bubblegum baroque pop," and frequently compared to Bright Eyes, Perkasie are more Puff The Magic Dragon meets Lynyrd Skynyrd meets O Brother Where Are Thou than Woody Guthrie meets Left Banke meet The 1910 Fruitgum Company. Just the idea of that has the senses working overtime!

Fronted by guitarist Alex Wash, the five piece also includes Dom Billett on drums, vocalist Kate Foust, Danny Sadler on bass and Ben Roth on guitar. They have one EP behind them and a full album on the way. While the band does mine some familiar musical territory like Bright Eyes, they also recall the Dead circa Workingman's and The Band. Mostly though, the band has a broad musical range and versatility; they're finding their voices and we're digging what we're hearing. - Bruce Warren, WXPN.
