R. King Redemption
Music is as natural to R. King Redemption as breathing is to those who need breath. In each chune performed, Redemption gives you his word that he's being truthful in lyric, and he will not lead you astray. As his name suggests, your redemption, his redemption, and our redemption is his mission. The deliverance from traveling the wrong path is what inspires the "penscrollah" in thought and song!
"Penscrollah" is a nickname given to Redemption by his bredrins, and is his alter ego. When constructing a song, "Penscrollah" is the one who writes the song, and R. King is the one who performs it. "It's a lyrical thing – we live by the lyrical code. We have style and pattan that is conscious." The pen is mightier than the sword. A sword can't kill everyone, but the pen can seep into the minds of many, and destroy the wrongs of man. The pen gives life, because the world started with the word, and the word was written. A thought begins in your head, and the pen translates the thought to word, and the word becomes permanent.
Born in the notorious "90's" section of Brooklyn, to teenage Jamaican parents, Redemptions foundation is based in the teachings of Marcus Garvey and the knowledge that Life is formed in the balance between Man and Woman. "In everything I do, I believe that we can uplift each other through truth, justice, love and righteousness. I have been blessed with the gift of music, so that's what I use to achieve my mission."
So committed is Redemption to the listeners of his music, he shares his experiences and internal growth through his music with the faith that people learn from his lyrics. Day by day, this gifted artist asks the Almighty to use him as a vessel to carry out the task of salvation, which is the stillness of one's mind, temple, body and soul. "Music is a responsibility as it speaks to our ancestors, elders, peers and the youth – I am a salvation Warrior."
For those wanting spiritual nourishment, R. King Redemption a.k.a. Penscrollah is the artist of choice. When he performs live, he feels comfortable on the stage, and gives it his all as he is bringing everyone with him, including his ancestors. Some of his hit chunes include "Nothing Gonna Stop Me", "Love Song" and "Burn Dem". His greatest experience on stage was opening for Fanton Mojah in North Carolina at the Lincoln Theatre. That was the first time his Father and family got to see me perform in a professional setting. Taking the stage right before Fanton Mojah, Redemption performed exceptionally well, and earned several forwards from the crowd causing his pre-planned 2-song performance to be extended to five. People who have seen him perform say he looks like he's been performing forever.
In addition to music, Redemption writes songs for artists from all musical genres, and can be heard on the soon to be released I-Trucoustic Riddim produced by Conscious Media. He also has plans to write a book as well as scripts for movies and television. On the humanitarian front, Redemption volunteers with organizations in the New York area who are dedicated to caring for orphans, the homeless, the sick and elders.
