Paranaut was formed in December of 2004. Three musicians assembled with the goal of creating heavy music of the "stoner rock" and "doom metal" variety. Paranaut started playing shows in May of '05. Starting with a bang, they expanded their set and still yearned for something different. interesting.

As talents, ideas, and influences melted together, a stronger desire was discovered. Quickly becoming bored with their small set, they expanded their sound and took many directions at once. Incorporating elements of progressive, experimental, noise/drone, and psychedelic music, they began to produce epic sonic experiences that are unique in nearly every performance.

In early 2006, they documented their efforts to date on "The Hills Fell Silent".

THFS is a fair representation of Paranaut's raw sound. It was recorded at the legendary Smegma Studio in Portland, Oregon by Mike Lastra.

THFS was released on May 16th, 2006 to rave reviews (full list of links to reviews and interviews posted in blog section).

In 2007, Paranaut played shows around the NW and Northern California and headlined the first ever "Seismic Emanations Fest" in Portland.

In late May and June of 2008 Paranaut re-entered Smegma Studio to lay the basic tracks for new recordings. A full-length was planned for 2009. In late summer Joey(Hexer), of Wheel of Pain, joined the band to give us a thicker guitar sound and assist with additional bass duties. He left us shortly after our August 22nd gig at Ash Street Saloon.

After 4 years, Kenny decided to move on and pursue his dreams of being a pop drummer and judo-polka instructor.

In his stead, he was replaced by Larry "Lars" Pike (formerly of Roanoke), and Paranaut began a new journey. The band quickly took on new material and drastically different tone. With the new rhythms and bleaker demeanor, audiences quickly adjusted and were wowed by the new sound. Unfortunately, because of health and financial reasons, Paranaut has decided to call it quits. or an indefinite hiatus. Though no one can say it is permenant, we have no plans for reunion. Paranaut's last show is slated for June 20th, 2009 at Seismic Emanations Fest. As of May, Larry will no longer be drumming for us, and Kenny has agreed to return for the remaining shows. We are thankful to all!

Demos featuring Kenny(2008 recordings) MAY remain as demos. All that is recorded of Larry is live mp3 and video recordings(some are featured here). Paul will continue to record his projects, and William will continue to promote and play around town with whoever is willing to jam. Larry will continue playing around town with his other projects. Kenny will soon release a Yanni tribute album and companion interpretive dance DVD
