Outsidaz are/were a rap group/crew from New Jersey. The group formed in the early 90's when two crews one named PNS (Prepared Never Scared) and the other named Skitzo had an MC battle. Both crews felt that neither group won the competition, they thought it was a tie. They decided to unite into one group. The Outsidaz were born. They made their debut on 'Cowboys' a song off the Fugees hit album 'The Score' in 96' (The Score went on to sell over 20 million copies). The Outz was mainly made up of battle MC's. Their sound could be described as original, ahead of it's time, highly underrated and their raps executed with a hell of a lot of heart, character, skill and style. Outsidaz struck a major blow when member Slang Ton (winner of Blaze Battle Jan 13 '99) was shot outside an Irvington takeout restaurant on July 18, 1999. He was taken to hospital where he went into a coma, Slang passed on September 5, 1999 (R.I.P. Slang Ton 2000lb of bad grammer). As a group they released the 'Nightlife' EP in 2000, 'The Bricks' LP in 2001 aswell as a bunch of 12" and CD singles including 'Rain Or Shine' in 98, 'Don't Look Now/The Rah Rah' in 99, 'Macosa / Do It With A Passion' in 99, 'Rush Ya Clique/Money Money Money' in 00, 'Keep On / Done In The Game' in 01, 'Who You Be Ft. Redman & Method Man' in 01, and finally 'I'm Leavin' in 02. A bootleged pre-release version of 'The Bricks' LP had a very different tracklist to what ended up being released and features many songs that didn't make the final cut, their are also quite a few unreleased demos floating around the net, I recommend to any fan of the outztry and find these songs if you don't already have them! During the group's hey day they lived together in a house known as 'Outworld' or 'The Outhouse'. The building was once a crackhouse, the Outsidaz management took it over and had them all live together. You can see them standing outside it on the cover art for 'The Bricks' LP. Upstairs were their bedrooms and downstairs was the studio / office. The Outsidaz (as a recording group) went their seperate ways around 2002 due to label politics, solo careers, internal conflict and the murder of Slang Ton. Most Outsidaz members have released either solo albums, singles or mixtapesgo and seek that shit out! While Outsidaz aren't together as a recording group anymore many members still make tracks together. Fingers crossed for some sort of reunion / project in the future.
