Fabio Orsi is an electronic musician from Taranto (Southern Italy) specialising in atmospheric drone. He is a young and talented composer recently revealed in a series of publications received by an enthusiastic chorus of critical approval. In his compositions the languages of popular tradition meet the avantgarde approach, creating an original and charm mix. Orsi’s music originates with field recordings through which he seeks to capture images in sound inspired by the historic pre-war folk recordings made by Alan Lomax .

Orsi says he admires the way in which Lomax was able to present folklore not merely as some historic artefact but as “an expression of suffering with a thirst for rebellion”.

His first release, Osci, was recorded in Salento and its two tracks , total playing time 36 minutes, are described by the Italian online magazine SentireAscoltare as : ”a patchwork of edited found sounds, drones, microwaves with sparse notes of guitar, piano and synth”. Since his 2005 debut, Fabio Orsi has consolidated his reputation as a key figure of the international nu-folk electronica underground with a bewildering yet fascinating series of solo works and collaborations dominated by psychedelically flavoured soundscapes. Orsi creates atmospheric audio postcards with a tangible sense of time and place, utilizing layers of guitars, old keyboards and found sounds, having a keen attention to details, loops develop so naturally that it’s almost impossible to notice when certain sounds are brought in and out. Electronic sounds meets the humoral sonorities made by the six chords, projecting enchanted landscapes on a vibrant horizon, with an intimate sensibility, abstract and emotional, deep and dreamy melodies, Orsi Structures pieces of crystalline beauty and his music sounds like the shout of revolt of a young guy in the south of Italy, who starting from poetry, has then chosen music as the most effective way to his vent of expression, hypnotic and seductive. His works are out for many different labels around in the world, A silent Place (Ita), Last Visible Dog (Usa), Digitalis Industries (Usa), Preservation (Australia), Porter Records(Usa), Low Point(Uk), Root Don Lonie (Nz), Ruralfaune (France) and many others, playing his tunes in different and important festivals in Italy, like Signal, Piombino Experimenta, Flussi Sonori, Lucania Film Festival. After his first release, Osci ( Lp, Small Voices 2005) he worked and work with many artists, My Cat Is An Alien, Gianluca Becuzzi, Valerio Cosi, Brad Rose, Seaworthy, Pimmon…, and his discography is full of collaborations as split releases or properly collaborative minds meeting. Fabio Orsi has archieved critique and fans, imposing his name as one of the most promising and representative of the entire Italian and international electronic indipendent scene, his music speak like a deep hole into the ground of loved/hated traditional music, it’s a snatch with the past, watching it from unusual perspective, with deforming lens under coloured lights, music never meets Art, it is something like a hack. Where the streets are swelling as the veins and the buildings are collapsing, he plants a microphone cold as a needle, he plays naked and old melodies just for lovers.

Drones, keyboard, guitar, distant vocals and field recordings can be found over the first two discs. CD3 is a brand new full length record entitled 'Random Shades of Day'. This new full length continues on from 'Wild Light of the Moon' with beautiful drones and relaxing ambience. This is easily some of my favourite work that Fabio has ever done, and Part III is also some of his darkest.

The Preservation label presents Thoughts Melt In The Air,

the second album from the pairing of Italian composers

Fabio Orsi and Valerio Cosi. Both Orsi and Cosi

have become recognised widely internationally for their

prolific solo output and kindred spirits in creating

momentous soundscapes that ring with lyrical feeling.

Still in his early 20s, Valerio Cosi has released

a seemingly endless stream of work that swirls

around giddily in a sweep of heady free-jazz

(his main instrument is tenor saxophone), homespun

psychedelia and Krautrock rhythm. Similarly unfaltering

in his release schedule, Fabio Orsi’s work draws from

a more electronic palette with a quieter, pastoral scope

featuring gentle washes of piano, guitar and percussion.

Over these four extended pieces, the pair reveals an

intimate detailing of sound while going widescreen

in pursuit of the epic. Wistful, yearning and melancholic,

Thoughts Melt In the Air traces the celestial, emotive sound

of enigmatic 4AD acts This Mortal Coil and Cocteau Twins,

perfectly pitched between dream-pop vibes and deep ambience.

Moreover, it harks back to the absorbing, meditative qualities

of Popol Vuh and classic-period Eno, often coupled with the primal

and hypnotic tension of rock ‘n roll in its pulse.

Whatever the elements, Thoughts Melt In The Air altogether

represents a great meeting of minds.

Sound Postcards is a sound representation of determinated time-space, of

its moods and atmospheres, it's a sort of soundpostcard in which the artists

portray a familiar and hypothetical landscape. The listener is induced to

''identify'' the represented subjects through interpretative processes which

directly compare sound suggestions with subjective/collective imagination. A

semanthic game of mirrors reflecting forms in perpetual transition between

auditive dimension and symbolic/mnemonic one.

We Could For Hours is instability. It represents the will to open the

gates of unknown. It is the dark, whispered sounds and hidden truths. Chaos.

And now here it starts, everything takes form, sensations rise, objects

acquire colours, distorted vision but still a vision of reality. Everything

dances and follows the rhythm of music, an unknown tribal dance.Silence.

Sounds follow themselves but always hidden in a veil of mistery, words are

mute, everything is listening attentively to the enchanting melody of

nature. Mind, free from human limits, goes straight towards a long journey

and meets the supernatural and then sinks into the knowledge oblivion.

Everything is nothing. Nothing is the time.

THE FIRST BORN contains four long tracks of dark, brooding modern

psychedelia. From the splashing cymbals and martial beat of the title track

to the hypnotic surge of "The infinity within" or the ritualistic feast of

"The battle", the whole album feels like an ancient sea ebbing and flowing

on some distant alien shore, making for a curiously disjointed listening

experience, at the same time peaceful and menacing. The ever-shifting sonic

textures evoke both the starchildren krautrockers of old and more recent

outer-world explorers but always keep a strong personal identity, firmly

rooted in the current weird Italian take on space rock.
