My name is Oleg Ostapchuk. I was born in a small city Velsk in Arkhangelsk region, Russia. First time I picked up the saxophone was at the age of 15. Between 1995 and 2001 I attended the Arkhangelsk music college. When I was 19 I went to Moscow to study at the best jazz school in Russia, Gnesin's Academy of Music. I studied with the great Russian jazz educator and saxophonist Alexander Oseichuk. I won numerous of jazz competitions and played in many famous jazz clubs and festivals in Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, Norway, Finland, USA. In February 2006 I took part in an "Open World" scholarship program in Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival,where studied with Jeff Hamilton and his trio. After graduating Gnesin's Academy I won a presidential scholarship to Berklee College of Music . I began my studies at Berklee in january, 2007. I am studying here with George Garzone, Hal Crook, Ralph Peterson, Dave Santoro, Greg Hopkins, Terry Lyne Carrington. For the past few years I've been playing in a couple of amazing bands such as Zventa-Sventana and Zemfira.
