Áine O' Doherty (pronounced Onya)
Áine O' Doherty is from Bundoran, Co. Donegal in the North West Ireland. She has been a full-time singer songwriter for ten years, and has performed her own music all around Ireland, Europe and the USA. She has played SXSW, Hard Working Class Heroes, appeared on National T.V & radio, shared stages with Thin Lizzy, Damien Dempsey, Máire Brennan, Paul Brady & many more. In 2008 Onya was awarded the Brendan Graham songwriting award for the song 'Zoom'. She featured on the RTE program 'This note's for you' writing with Fiachna O Braonain (Hot House Flowers). In 2004 Áine was placed 5th in 'You're a Star', Ireland's version of American Idol.
In 2010 Áine was awarded a summer scholarship to Berklee College of Music, Boston, MA., there she studied voice & songwriting & brought her knowledge back on the road she played festivals, pubs & clubs in Europe & the U.S gigging solo and with her band the Surfchixxx. Áine's love for the road & the live music scene has brought her to New Orleans where she is currently based. She had been in town only a month and she secured a residency in Chef Matt Murphy's newly opened gastro pub The Irish House on St. Charles Avenue as well as numerous gigs around the city.
Áine's repertoire includes a wide spectrum of songs to please almost every ear, you can hear her sing old Irish ballads in English & Gaelic like Black Velvet Band, Óró sé do bheatha 'bhaile, Wild Rover, she can do Dolly Parton & Johnny Cash numbers influenced by her country singing mother & she will effortlessly blast out big hits from Adele, Janis Joplin & Sinéad O'Connor!
Áine has put together a band for bigger gigs and they are available for pub gigs and festivals. She is also gathering new original material and plans to make a record over the next 12 months in New Orleans.
