BIOGRAPHY

The Finnish Power Metal group Olympos Mons was formed in 2002 by guitarist Jari Sundström and singer Ian E. Highhill. It was the passion for melodic, symphonic metal music and one which led the two experienced musicians to the important decision of founding a band in which they could bring their creativity to full range! Thanks to their year-long activities in various bands they certainly had the skills and experience required. Jari Sundström feels just as much at home in the world of classical music as he does in rock and metal, has been composing songs for many years and his aggressive style of playing guitar has made him a popular figure on the local scene. For his part, Ian E. Highhill has a voice of exceptional range and is known both as a composer and as the author of dark, romantic lyrics.

Their first demo, "Seven Seas", released in August 2002, was a clear demonstration of OLYMPOS MONS' musical direction. The mixture of hard and aggressive guitar riffs and musical-like passages with strings, bagpipes and harps are the basis for powerful, bombastic metal songs full of a uniquely mystical atmosphere. And between the melodic, varied songlines, the listener can bathe in singer Ian's romantic lyrics. It is a mixture which immediately awakened the interest of numerous labels, webzines and Power Metal fans in Europe, Japan, the USA and South America.

Knowing they had created a strong foundation to build upon the two friends hurried to find some additional musicians to complete the line up. Drummer Mikko Sepponen and session keyboard player Vili Ollila was brought into the band. In the fall of 2004 they released their debut album "Conquistador" on the German label LMP. In the first two months it already sold several thousands of copies, got great reviews from all over the world and was considered one of the best newcomers on the label.

Early in their career, Olympos Mons didn't have a bass player. But the missing link was finally found during the winter of 2005 in the form of an old band mate from earlier projects called Krister Lundell. Requests for live shows from around the world have also been dropping in ever since the beginning of the bands career. The first time Olympos Mons proved their strength before a live audience was at Tuska open air festival in June 2005. In October 2006 they made their first step abroad in form of a successful mini tour to Ireland. This resulted in only one thing, the band got taste for blood and there was no turning back!!

In July 2006 they also finished the recordings of their second album "Medievil" which contains even more power and energy than it's preceder. Historical themes, dark secrets from medieval times and romantic dreams of mistreated lovers, all backed up with great melodies and orchestral arrangements. Not to mention the aggressive guitars and vocals that almost takes their sound to the point where Power Metal meets Thrash Metal. the excellent mixing by Janne Saksa (Sound Supreme studios, e.g Mokoma, Total devastation) as well as the brilliant mastering by Mika Jussila (Finnvox Studios, e.g. Stratovarius, Edguy, Nightwish) makes sure that "Medievil" is just as huge and sounds just as explosive as the name OLYMPOS MONS implies.

After several disagreements during the negotiations about "Medievil" Olympos Mons finally broke up with LMP. The search for a new record company begun. But they didn't have to search too long. The Italian label Scarlet Records had kept an eye on the band since the beginning of their career and also been in contact with the guys at an earlier occasion, but unfortunately they had just joined with LMP. The band didn't want to let this opportunity pass them by again so in February 2007 they signed a new worldwide deal with Scarlet Records. The new record will hit the stores in July 2007, And it's also licensed to marquee/Avalon for the Japanese market.

The album was claimed to be one of the best Power Metal albums of 2004.
