In 1996 Deron and Jess sidelined Foreign Objects and formed Oil along with bassist Drew from Foreign Objects. Drew led way to Andy Smith who was then replaced with Ryan Bruni in 1997. Oil was their attempt at making something "more digestible" and deep down, neither Jess or Deron were truly fond of the band. Efforts to get a record deal were shot down and the band really was going nowhere. When Ryan Bruni was recruited to play bass, the trio decided that it was time to just get themselves out there, play some shows and play what they wanted to play. After a disastrous tour around Philadelphia and parts of New England, Jess and Deron decided to record another demo. Enter Chad I. Ginsburg. Chad has stated that he did, in fact, play with the group as Oil before they decided to make the change to CKY. There are two main releases credited to the band as well as three demos.
