Profound and sassy, with a nice touch of soul is what you get when you listen to the supernova they call Scorpio Blues. This Oakland California native has not only taken the spoken word scene over with a point of her finger and a smile, but she can also magically weave the most soulful songs with strong soothing words.

In 2003, she assisted the Oakland Slam team in placing 4th in the Nation and was individually ranked 16th in the Nation. She’s performed at the world famous Apollo Theater in Harlem, was a 2004 Nuyorican Grand Slam Semi-Finalist, the 2004 Harlem’s Hottest Poet champion, and was invited to perform on BET’s Lyric Café in the Bahamas in 2004. In 2005 she released Blue Blushin,’ her first professionally recorded and highly successful spoken word project and was invited to record for Russell Simmons Def Poetry Jam. In 2006 she became the Ill List (Pronounced Illest) Poets Champion, becoming the first female, first African-American, and first poet on deck (receiving the 1 slot) to ever win their competition. Now, 2009 marks the release of her highly anticipated album, Scorpio Rising.

She has appeared on BET twice, HBO’s Def Poetry – Season V, Episode 3, was nominated for the 2007 Spoken Word Artist of the Year Award (Female) by the Bay Area Music Awards and has shared stages with the likes of Eric Roberson, Anthony David, Jaguar Wright, Lina, Dozie, D’Wayne Wiggins, The Last Poets, Floetry, Les Nubians, Felicia Rashaad, Mos-Def, Smokey Robinson, Goapele, Bahamadia, M-1 of Dead Prez, and many other well-known singers, rappers, poets and entertainers.

In addition to being on the board of Creation Cocoon for Girls, a nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering girls by developing their individual creativity, she is also the CEO of Hot Water Cornbread, the only Oakland-based spoken word and entertainment management company dedicated to not only providing platforms for artists from across the globe, but to ensuring the longevity and forward movement of the art form known as spoken word.

Her poetry is best described by a host & fan of hers that has watched her grow from day one… "‘Scorpio Blues’ poetry is like that cold, refreshing glass of water on a scorching hot summer day. Mix in one part Roberta Flack & another part Sonia Sanchez’.Come take a sip…!” www.hotwatercornbread.org www.myspace.com/betterblues"
