Nicholiah (B.N.G) was born Nicholas Grant in Los Angeles County in 1987. His early years were spent constantly moving around Orange County, Long Beach, and Los Angeles California. His mother was always gone, either working or enjoying nights out at the local clubs. B.N.G went on to live with other relatives in Northwest Washington. He went from being an honor roll student to a high school dropout. This is mostly due to the fact that a number of close friends and family members had passed away throughout his youth. He was homeless, living out of an ‘81 station wagon. He attempted many times to give up on life, choosing the path of suicide, but was never fully successful. He was diagnosed with severe depression and survived off of government issued pills for a while. Then something terrible happened. His close friend Henry died and that was the last straw. He realized that he needed to do something big with his life before it was too late. He and his best friend, Samuel Farmer (Addae), decided to write a song for Henry. It was a hit. Their first few tracks were recording in Addae’s mother’s basement on the lowest of quality equipment. B.N.G met up with a local artist by the name of Shadow to further pursue music, through networking and Shadow’s seemingly more professional studio and experience. After a couple tracks, B.N.G then move up again, signing to Bellingham Christian rap record label, Raze N Hell Records, owned by Loc Saint. Loc taught him many things about recording and mixing down. He almost helped him build his buzz online and linked him up with many of his connects. During all this, which had only taken place over a 4 or 5 month period, B.N.G had been stuck in the middle of an ugly legal battle. He lost. Between him going to jail, more deaths, and a falling out with Loc Saint, his short stint with the label was finished. After serving his time in jail, he got out and immediately went back to chasing his dreams in music. B.N.G signed to D Screet’s independent label, Ryder Records, and things started to turn around. He recorded song after song, hopping on every single mixtape that he could working with DJ’s such as DJ Vlad, DJ Hurricane, DJ Scratchez, DJ L-Gee, DJ Espee, DJ Capcom, DJ Haze, and DJ 12 Gauge just to name a few. He released his own mixtape called My Life, which got his foot into the door, creating a mini buzz on myspace. His second mixtape, The Alpha Mixtape, hosted by September 7th, did not just hit myspace. With September 7th’s ties to the Cali Untouchable DJ’s, he was able to get the project on many websites including Caliuntoucables.com, Livemixtapes.com, Datpiff.com, Dubbcnn.com, Westcoastrydaz.com, and Yoraps.com. B.N.G has been featured on blogtalkradio.com, premiering his tracks and getting to speak directly to the audience through interviews. He has spoken with major industry executives from labels such as Jive Records, Def Jam, and Atlantic Records who have given him direct and very motivating advice about how to make it in this game and potentially get singed. He is currently working on his next project "Cinematics" set the hit the streets in early 2011 with DJ Green Lantern and DJ Don Cannon, but his main goal is to hit the industry mainstream hard and soon. Be on the lookout for this up and coming, fast learning, and talented rapper.
