I still remember the words welcoming the guests that came from Europe, United States and Latin America to the ONDA NUEVA FESTIVAL back in 1971.
A symbolic tucano was the image that began what is considered the most creative and important chapter of Venezuelas music history.
The creators were the Master Aldemaro Romero and drum player Frank “El Pavo” Hernández. The creation was a fusion of Venezuelan Joropo with Jazz and Bossanova. That innovating rhythm caused huge respect, curiosity and interest from all over the world. Relevant orchestra directors of the time shared the stage in Caracas, Elmar Bernstein, Aldo Pagani, Paul Muriat, Astor Piazzola, Kunihiko Suzuki, Frank Pourcel, musicians as Dave Grusin, Tito Puente, Armando Manzanero and singers as Milton Nascimento, Celia Cruz and Marlena Shaw showed the world their ONDA NUEVA feeling.
In 1971 The International Federation of Festival Organizations FIDOF granted the prize as “The Best Music Festival of the World”.
More than 30 years later, Caracas remixes the ONDA NUEVA.
The past comes to present and fuses with today’s musical elements. A new generation that grew up with ONDA NUEVAS tunes declared themselves fans of the collective memory of the Venezuelan music and decided to make a tribute to the masters and to the achievement, creating a NUEVA ONDA NUEVA using samplers, synths, and vocoders. This 12 musicians and producers joined us, to show the world this country full of mixes and remixes.
A new sound of best Venezuelan music has been created.

Caracas Capital Mundial de La Onda Nueva
Todavia recuerdo las palabras dandole la bienvenida a los músicos, directores y cantantes de Europa, Estados Unidos y Latinoamérica invitados al 1er. Festival de Onda Nueva. Un simbólico tucán como imágen sellaba el inicio de aquel importante e innovador capítulo de nuestra historia musical. La curiosidad, el respeto y el delirio que causaba esa genial fusión de Joropo Venezolano, un ritmo incomparable creado por el maestro Aldemaro Romero y el Pavo Frank Hernández atrajo a muchos.
La organización mundial de festivales de música FIDOF lo declaró en 1971 el "Mejor Festival de Música del Mundo" y en un parrafo de cierre concluía, "Argentina dió el tango, Cuba la Rumba Brasil la Bossanova, Venezuela la Onda Nueva.
Mas de 30 años después, el pasado se hace presente y se fusiona con el aqui y el ahora, una generación que creció con este ritmo coleado entre temas extranjeron y nativos se declara fanática de la memoria colectiva del venezolanoy decide rendir un homenaje muy acorde a nuestra era, creando una NUEVA ONDA NUEVA entre samplers, sintetizadores y voocoders. Estos 12 artistas decidieron junto a nosotros hacer que el mundo entero vuelva a poner la mirada en este país de mezclas y remezclas.
Un nuevo sonido común a todos ha sido creado.
