Breaking Orbit formed in late 2009, Based in Sydney, Australia. Breaking Orbit create a captivating type of heavy progressive rock that is intricate and eclectic – with each song telling a story. Their music ebbs and flows through passages melodic yet heavy, tribal yet modern, atmospheric yet brutal. It is an amalgamation of astonishing musicianship.
Breaking Orbit began by releasing a self-titled 3 track EP containing a much praised cover of Massive Attack's 'Dissolved Girl', touring the east coast of Australia and supporting such bands as Cog and Dead Letter Circus. The EP is out of print but still continues to make sales digitally worldwide.
In 2010, Breaking Orbit began recording what was to be their debut album at The Grove studios (Silverchair, Eskimo Joe). In late 2010 the band released two singles from this recording – 'My Direction' which was toured in August, and 'Callsign', which was toured in November. Both tracks received limited airplay on national radio Triple J and community stations, sold well with national and international sales – with My Direction now out of print. Breaking Orbit were nominated in the top 5 Rock artists at the 2012 MusicOz awards with the track 'Callsign'.
Sometimes life pops up and takes control of some situations. In 2011 Breaking Orbit took almost a year away from live shows whilst a founding member left the band temporarily, and another supported the birth of his first child. During this time the band completed recording their debut album, and in November 2011 performed their first shows in 12 months – a tour that would kick start the band again and re-affirm their fan base on the east coast of Australia.
In 2012, Breaking Orbit completed work on their long awaited debut album 'The Time Traveller', produced by band member Dylan Mitrovich and mastered by Forrester Savell (Karnivool, Dead Letter Circus). The album is immaculately produced, showcasing a mass of layers, allowing the listener to find something new upon each listen – a characteristic of a timeless recording.
The album is an hour-long epic, flowing through dynamic passages and presenting a constantly changing scenery. The albums concept revolves around the evolution of man through past, present and future time, touching on themes from ancient mythology. It's music also reflects the theme, mixing modern styles and electronic sounds with progressive roots and tribal sensibilities – including the recurring feature of the 'Quena' – a traditional bamboo flute of the Andes. The artwork also reflects the theme of the album, with the 8 panel digipak depicting a three dimensional view of the evolution of a human travelling from the future to bring a message to save our current existence.
Received well by media prior to release, LifeMusicMedia said "The Time Traveller will demand your attention and toy with your emotions, a clear contender for album of the year and one of the best Australian debuts in recent memory".

'The Time Traveller' is distributed in Australia through Firestarter Distribution, released in July. Pre-sales of the album have topped the sales chart of online music retailer Waterfront Records in its first week.
Breaking Orbit will be touring around Australia in the second half of 2012 to proclaim arrival of their debut album 'The Time Traveller'.
