northstar project

Vocalist Matthew Smith and guitarist Josh Brown formed northstar project during the summer of 2001 in their hometown of Elizabethtown, KY. Featuring Smith, Brown, Chad Frith and Travis McCoy, the group's music presents Staind-style vocals and guitars, P.O.D.-style grooves, and bass lines that would make Flea wet his pants. The beginnings of northstar project go beyond 2001, back to 1995, when two of Hardin County's biggest band nerds found each other through their mutual interest in classical music. Josh on the trombone and Matthew on the french horn, the two found that their musical sensibilities made for perfect harmony, literally and figuratively. While Josh went to the University of Louisville and Matthew to Arizona State University, they kept up their friendship, but had little plans to pursue music together. It wasn't until Matthew moved to Cincinnati for graduate school that he and Josh were able to write their first song together. Over the next several years, Matthew and Josh were fortunate enough to build, piece-by-piece, northstar project into the ensemble that it is today. A special thanks goes out to drummer-turned soldier, Michael Williams for pointing us in the direction we now travel.
