Nine Pound Shadow

NPS is a family band of carefree show ponies, bright and lively – two brothers and a sister fashioning catchy melodies from the second floor art room of their childhood home in the flats of West Berkeley.



Long ago, as little kids, their drunken and raving father would recite Bob Dylan lyrics to them late into the evening and sometimes into the early morning, asking them for their own interpretations of the artist’s words. The kids were too young to know what their pop meant, but the impression was made that the lyrics must be very meaningful. (And that music was mysterious and powerful.)



The fake wood stereo speakers of their lost youth pumped out old-school pop music day and night. Beloved anthems twinkled in the children’s ears like electric fireworks giving light in dark times.



Somehow, note-by-note, the infectious charm of old classics wound its way into the kid’s mongrel DNA. The understated prettiness of simpler times grabbed their imaginations and steered their dreams.



Later, the kids grew up and became songwriters. A timeless quality can be faintly heard in their voices and underneath words they sing. Born out of sounds past, re-forged into something raw and new, Nine Pound Shadow’s music provides a vital voice to lovers and dreamers in wild times of trouble and change.
