Represented by the Joe Strummer foundation for new music (Strummerville), Nimmo and the Gauntletts are an enthusiastic 5-piece from North West London. Mentored by Emmy the Great and touted by the Big Chill Festival they have been building up a strong wave of word-of-mouth support.
Structured around the youth-driven songs of Sarah Nimmo, Reva Gauntlett and multi instrumentalist Joshua Faull, the band play an exciting mixture of jazzy folk, dub, punk and acoustic, heavily instrumented by a young saxophonist. Invoking the spirit of early punk and new-wave, while maintaining the heart of modern London indie, it's no wonder the band were picked up at their residency at the infamous Boogaloo so quickly by the Strummerville scouts, and summoned to their offices under London's iconic Westway.
It's also no wonder that legendary filmmaker Don Letts has chosen them to be the centrepiece of his new documentary about Strummerville and new music, which premiered to great acclaim in SXSW this year.
The festivals they have played this summer are Secret Garden party-main stage (through winning The Music League Competition), Lounge on the farm, and Winterwell boutique festival.
'The feel of early Blur and the quirky songwriting skills of the Kooks. Quoted by all who see them as ones to watch for 2010 watch this space for news of their first release' - Big Chill Records.
