Back in 2005 singer and songwriter Martin Steene (Iron Fire, Force of Evil), got the idea to do something completely different from what he ever done before. The original idea was to put on a project that would spawn the interest of gothic fans; acts like HIM, Paradise Lost and Sentenced served as blueprint for this project, which temporarily got filed under the name Venoms Kiss. To make idea become reality, and to develop some kind of identity, Steene started to write and record demos in his living room. All caught up in the songwriting process, Steene needed a band to kick some energy into the songs, as well as some partners in crime for future songwriting. Steene therefore got in contact with Hagel who was an old schoolmate, with whom Steene had played before, therefore knowing the style and merits of Hagels drumming style. The position as bassplayer was an obvious choice for Steene, as his long time friend and fellow musician Martin Lund was already a member of Iron Fire. With a definite need for exploring the boundaries of his playing style, Martin Lund both had the musical skills and the right attitude for the project. As a trio Venoms Kiss started their search to gather musicians, who both possessed talent and attitude for this gloomy rock project. And as the sessions evolved, it was quite clear that guitarist Nikolaj Ihlemann, with his versatile playing skills, were the perfect match for the more heavy rhythm section. As a four piece orchestra the band stated the rehearsals for the first album, which eventually got recorded during the summer and fall of 2006. After the end of the recordings, an obvious need to try out the material live emerged. To extent the soundscape of the music a second guitarist was needed. After only a few sessions, the young and energetic Kasper Langmann seemed to be the right choice, to fill out the heavy burden as rhythm guitarist. After the annexation of Langmann, the fab five decided to change the name to Nightlight, under which the band entered the limelight of Copenhagen. Support jobs for acts like Leaves Eyes and Type O Negative made a statement of a fearsome, powerful and omnipotent liveband who, without having put out an album, managed to fill the local venue The Rock to the bursting point. After these successful gigs, the next task was to release the debut album, which the band decided to do on their own label Hellfire Records. And in the fall 2008 the Nighlight debut album entitled Funeral of Love will finally hit the street. And even though the band is a new act on the vast canvas of goth rock, the flaws of beginners are way beyond this Danish quintet. This can definitely be heard on Funeral of Love, which provides the listener with mature musicianship, as well as a fresh approach to a genre that has been in rapid development during the last ten years.
