Tom DeLonge learns a lesson from Joe Strummer

Published: August 17, 2012

Joe Strummer, the late singer/guitarist from The Clash, has inspired countless people, and not only through his music.

Heres an example of how Blink-182 singer/guitarist Tom DeLonge benefited from Joes wisdomand you might be able to apply it somehow to your own life, too.

When Tom asked Joe what it was like to be in The Clash, Joe responded by saying, “We used to walk around saying, ‘F*** you, we’re in The Clash.’ But now that I look back on it, The Talking Heads were pretty f***ing cool. Don’t close your mind and think you’re the only thing out there.

Tom had the chance to use what he learned a few days later, when Blink-182 played a show with Oasis.

After Blink finished their set, Oasis singer Liam Gallagher came into their dressing room, saying, Are you guys Blink-182? Youre the best Ive seen in America.

Tom asked, You like us?, and Liam responded, I didnt say that, I said you were the best Ive seen in America!

From that point on, Tom thought Oasis were awesome.
