Showing a riveting rock sound inspired by Mazzy Star, “Ecstasy You” is a delectably murky psych-rocker from The Parlor, the Albany-based project led by the husband-wife duo Eric Krans and Jen O’Connor. They named the band after a room in their 19th century farmhouse, where they create music, live, and farm.
The multi-instrumentalists compel with dynamic textures on the track, ranging from the hazy nonchalance of the initial verses to the buzzing bridge and gripping climax, where a shimmering backing organ emanates alongside twangy guitars and clamoring percussion. The shimmering escalation at the two-minute turn enthralls with a simultaneously dreamy and effervescent glow, satiating after the steadily twangy build.
In addition to Mazzy Star, the track is inspired by “Marguerite Porete and medieval mysticism.” They elaborate further:
It’s a song about divine union, or unitive conscious, and the ecstasy of realizing we are the universe experiencing itself. We are nature making love to nature everytime we make love.
“Ecstasy You” is the second single from The Parlor’s upcoming album, You Are Love and I Am You.
