Barkaa, JK-47, Dallas Woods And More Are Playing A Huge Live-Streamed Gig Tomorrow Night

Published: January 24, 2022

A stack of First Nations artists will jump on TikTok for a live-streamed event on the evening of January 26.

The program, called First Sounds, is being spearheaded by NITV and will be broadcast across TikTok, NITV, and SBS Viceland. It’ll showcase a bunch of established and emerging talent — including the formidable Barkaa, who just dropped her brilliant debut EP Blak Matriarchy, JK-47, fresh off the release of new single ‘Healing’,  and Kobie Dee, whose EP Gratitude Over Pity landed last year.

“I really want my sisters to feel seen and heard with this,” Barkaa recently told Junkee about Blak Matriarchy.  “I want to pay homage to them. Create music where they can pump it in the earphones and have confidence in their step and hold their heads up high. For our sisters to believe that they can get out of traps of addiction and that they can get their babies back. I’ve created songs that speak about my life experience and that when things feel hopeless, there’s hope at the end of the day.”

There’ll also be performances from Becca Hatch, Dallas Woods, ARIA award winner Kaiit, Nooky, and Fijian-Australian rapper Jesswar. It’ll be hosted by triple j’s Tyrone Pynor, AGNT BLAK founder Bianca Hunt, and NITV’s Grayson McCarthy-Grogan.

It’ll kick off at 7.30pm — you can tune into the channels above to watch it, or see if on NITV’s TikTok account.
