Third-wave Boston ska-punks the Mighty Mighty Bosstones have officially announced their plans to disband after close to 40 years in operation.

While they've offered no reason as to why they've decided now is the time to break up after decades of spearheading skacore, making people skank as though their lives depended on it and having just signed with Hellcat Records last year, they did send fans a farewell message via their website and socials.

The band wrote:

After decades of brotherhood, touring the world and making great records together, we have decided to no longer continue on as a band. Above all, we want to express our sincere gratitude to every single one of you who have supported us. We could not have done any of it without you.

Their final studio record remains 2021's When God Was Great, about which Exclaim! reviewer Ian Gormely wrote that, "though the [ska] scene's presence on the soundtrack of teen comedies was fleeting, it's been a constant, if under-the-radar, subsection of punk for decades. Every once in a while, the music cognoscenti decides to take an interest, only to find the Mighty Mighty Bosstones still skanking along." Seems those skanking days are finally through.
