Following some cryptic teasers to ring in the New Year, Meshuggah have announced their ninth studio album. The Swedish legends will deliver Immutable on April 1 via Atomic Fire Records.

Immutable arrives six years on from Meshuggah's previous LP, 2016's The Violent Sleep of Reason. The album's cover artwork from recurring visual collaborator Luminokaya can be found above.

While a tracklist has yet to be revealed, the snippet of new music heard in an Immutable teaser trailer below comes from a song titled "Ligature Marks."

In a statement, guitarist Mårten Hagström shares of Meshuggah's latest, "The title fits perfectly for where we are as a band. We're older now. Most of us are in our fifties now, and we've settled into who we are. Even though we've been experimenting all along, I also think we've been the same since day one. The way we approach things and why we still make new albums, and why we still sound the way we do, it's immutable. Humanity is immutable, too. We commit the same mistakes over and over. And we are immutable. We do what we do, and we don't change."

Immutable will be available for pre-order beginning January 28, when it's also expected that a first single will arrive.

As previously reported, Immutable marks the return of lead guitarist and founding member Frederik Thordendal, who took time away from Meshuggah beginning in 2017 to build a recording studio and work on a new solo LP. Scar Symmetry's Per Nilsson played with Meshuggah as a touring member between 2017 and 2019, handling lead guitar and backing vocals.
