Exclaim!Amid the so-called chaos, here's some good news: the venerable
Alanis Morissette is the latest homegrown legend to be inducted into the
Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame (CSHF).
The Ottawa-raised singer-songwriter will join 2020's previously announced honourees
Jim Vallance and
Bryan Adams at the first in-person gala the non-profit has held since 2017, taking place September 24 at Toronto's Massey Hall.
"Some albums define a generation, but few albums can transform a generation as
Jagged Little Pill did," SHF Chairman Stan Meissner said in a release. "Alanis is a tour de force who blazed her own trail amongst the male-dominated alternative rock landscape of the '90s; and her intrepid approach to songwriting has influenced and empowered an entire generation of songwriters, including Avril Lavigne, P!nk, Katy Perry, Serena Ryder, Beyoncé and Olivia Rodrigo, to name a few."
Morissette is also scheduled to perform at the induction ceremony, alongside some inductee tributes from
Charlotte Cardin,
Jessie Reyez and
Serena Ryder.
Tickets to attend the gala go on sale Friday (May 27) at 10 a.m. ET via the Massey Hall
website.
Previous Hall of Fame inductees include Rush, Joni Mitchell, Leonard Cohen and Neil Young, among many others.
The CanCon icon is gearing up to release
a meditation album with Darkside's Dave Harrington ahead of embarking on a long-awaited
Canadian Jagged Little Pill anniversary tour this summer.
