Violent Resonance: For those who are unfamiliar with Brothers of the Sonic Cloth, please tell us a little bit about the backstory of the band and let us know what you sound like.

Brothers of the Sonic Cloth: 2006. The brothers started as a recording-only project back in 2006. Since then many demos have been recorded and Tad decided that he wanted to put together a live band. We had a demo we put out in 2009 that we sold on our bandcamp for a while and it was limited to 50 copies on CD. After that we did a split 10 inch vinyl with Mico de Noche on Violent Hippy records. Since then we recorded our full links self-titled record that was released on Neurot Recordings.

VR: Invisible Oranges compared your sound to ‘Monotheist-era Celtic Frost with some post-punk elements”, who are some of the bands and/or musicians that inspire you guys and your writing process.

BOTSC: Well, we have been fans of Celtic Frost for long time.  There are so many influences that we’ve had over the years that it’s really hard to put together a list that’s fair.

VR: What did you grow up listening to? Did anything that your parents or siblings listened to influence you or plant the seeds that got you into the music you’re into today?

BOTSC: Since there are three of us in the band and we all grew up in different parts the country, we all draw on similar influences. Some of these influences are obvious, such as Pink Floyd and Black Sabbath. We also witnessed the emergence of the punk scene. Again, there is really too many influences to list.

VR: The self-titled release was the first record we’ve seen from Tad in over a decade, how long was the Brothers of the Sonic Cloth record in the works and can we expect to see more releases in the future?

BOTSC: The Brothers debut was in the works for close to 10 years. You can definitely expect to hear more releases from us in the future. However, we do move at our own pace. Who knows how long it will be before we have another record coming out.

VR: What’s it been like being a part of the Neurot Records family? Any other bands on the label our readers may not of heard that they should check out?

BOTSC: Neurot Records have been very good to us and we consider them family and treat them as such. The whole record label has really good music on it. Having been a fan of Neurosis for a very long time, we are somewhat biased. We collectively find Amenra and Yob very interesting.

VR: Anyone in the band avid readers? What do you like to read/explore when it comes to literature? Does any of that play a role in the writing behind the music?

BOTSC: Peggy is a ravenous reader. It seems like she’s going through at least a book a week and her reading varies.

VR: The lyrics seem to run deep on this record, themes of mortality and “the bigger picture” for lack of a better way of saying it.  How important is exploring these deeper concepts to you? Do you think it’s something we (as people) don’t do enough of?

BOTSC: We have found these things to be important to us and as a result they find their way into our music.

VR: Who are you most looking forward to seeing or sharing the stage with at Southwest Terror Fest? Anyone you have yet to see that you’re looking forward to watching for the first time?

BOTSC: It would certainly be a blast to see Poison Idea but we are beyond honored and stoked to be playing with Sleep. I imagine that we will all be seeing different shows that interest us as individuals while we are there.

VR: Any plans for future writing or continued touring? Please link us to any websites/pages that can keep the listeners up to date on Brothers of the Sonic Cloth.

BOTSC: We have a European tour coming up in early 2016 and after that we will be riding morning songs for next record.
