Upcoming Metal Releases: 2/1/26 – 2/7/26

KhüllAge of Steel | Naturmacht Productions | Dungeon Synth | Spain (Cartagena)

Age of Steel is dungeon synth for battlefields, a one-man call to arms made in service of Conan the Barbarian. It’s even better suited for tabletop RPG encounters, with enough suspense and grandiosity to spur your party into action.

MayhemLiturgy of Death | Century Media Records | Black Metal | Norway (Oslo)

Mayhem’s third album with Teloch as lead songwriter, and seventh overall, bridges Daemon‘s classic black metal and Esoteric Warfare‘s experimentalism. It’s sharp, dynamic, and far more inspired than any album that celebrates a band’s 40th anniversary should be. It also asserts that, if you want to make high-fidelity and technical black metal that doesn’t sound like a goblin chewing wet noodles, you should be ripping off Mayhem.

EnsanguinateDeath Saturnalia (With Temples Below) | Soulseller Records | Death Metal + Black Metal | Slovenia (Ljubljana)

It may sound like it was recorded through two potatoes and a styrofoam microphone, but Ensanguinate’s sophomore record is a solid hybrid of death metal and black metal, crossing the threshold between the two without committing to either.

Agenbite MiseryRemorse of Conscience | Independent | Experimental Metal | United States (New Hampshire)

Here’s an album straight from the writer’s room with 1,000 monkeys on 1,000 typewriters; experimental metal that adapts James Joyce’s Ulysses. I can’t attest for how accurately Remorse of Conscience adapts the famed novel since I didn’t finish it, but know that Agenbite Misery are more interested in translating the genre-agnostic and non-linear feel of Joyce into music than they are creating a Ulysses audiobook.

BergtagenIn Forests Eternal | Nebulae Artifacta | Atmospheric Black Metal + Folk Metal | United States

From Alex Chan’s track premiere of “In Forests Eternal”:
Rediscovered, rewritten, and rerecorded by founding member Jon Rosenthal and drummer/guitarist Anthony W., “In Forests Eternal” not only pays tribute to bands like Ulver, Empyrium, and Agalloch, but also to the legends surrounding those Norwegian bergs: tales that feel as old as the moss beneath your boots and the creaking trunks that extend as far as the eye can see.
