Austrian blackened thrash firestarters Ludgar have returned to unleash the third single from their upcoming debut album Violent Visions, entitled “Serpents Poison.” Despite the fact that “Serpents Poison” is the record’s most reserved track (if you can even call it that), this thing will still rip your skull from your spine and chug a beer from it.
The track opens with brooding arpeggiated chords and tasteful drum accents alongside a synth melody that almost sounds like a nod to the intro of In the Nightside Eclipse, before going full bore with riffs, blasting, and vocalist Lukas Höller’s wonderfully ‘80s Cronos-meets-Quorthon delivery. Ludgar’s songwriting capabilities are on full display when they slow things down at the halfway point, shifting into a quick buildup before resuming laying the smackdown. The repeated screeching howls during the slower section are a delightfully evil touch and a great way to maintain the intensity from a different angle.
“Serpents Poison” is a cut for certified Real Rockers, serving as an excellent midway point for Violent Visions that provides added dimensions to an already killer record. Check it out below and let Ludgar drag you to hell and kick your ass about it.
