For Mean Mistreater, Hard Rock and Heavy Metal are “Do or Die” (Early Track Stream)

Published: January 02, 2025

If you’re looking for your hard rock transferred to you at the maximum possible bandwidth, consider Mean Mistreater for your metallic needs. The Texan group blends hard rock and heavy metal into an eight-cylinder menace on their upcoming sophomore record Do or Die, packing eight songs into just 27 minutes. If you do the math, that’s a fantastic return on riffs per minute — but maybe leave the division behind and just take in the band’s furious mix of full-speed-ahead rippers and the occasional mid-paced sinister offerings. Today we’re premiering the title track from the record — though the full record drops in February, you can check out the just-over-three minute “Do or Die” below.

Even on this three-minute track, Mean Mistreater make sure to find time for multiple raging solos, which share show-stealing duties with vocalist Janiece Gonzalez’s howling, anthemic delivery. Laid out over a pounding double-bass rhythm and exuberant riffs, “Do or Die” showcases the energy that Mean Mistreater bring to the table. There’s heart here, not just aggression, and conviction that backs up their breakneck speed — the Texans aim to bring us along for the ride, not leave us in the dust.

Mean Mistreater releases February 21st via Dying Victims Productions.
