Grotesque images and rot are generally not the first images that come to mind when I think of post-rock influenced atmospheric black metal, and yet Midwest-based Chrome Waves defy convention with their new video. Featuring short bursts of rotting teeth, vultures consuming carcasses, and general rot, the new video for “Into the Water” juxtaposes beautiful music with jarring imagery. Featuring what appears to be the last recording with former Forest of Impaled frontman Zion Meagher on bass, this new single stylistically hearkens back to Chrome Waves’ early days–probably because “Into the Water” dates back that far.
