Gucci Mane is officially a Canadian resident (for now)

Drake just got some competition when it comes to the Canadian rap game, if only for a moment. Yesterday it was reported that in preparation for his upcoming tour, Gucci Mane has officially been granted a temporary resident permit in Canada that will allow him to perform in the country.

In a statement to TMZ, officials at the Canadian Border Services Agency outlined that “anyone crossing the border into Canada must demonstrate they meet the requirements to enter or stay in the country, and involvement in criminal activity is cause to prevent someone from entering.”

Gucci’s maiden voyage to the Great White North kicks off next week in Halifax before making 9 more pit stops across cities in Ontario, Manitoba, Alberta, and British Columbia. Despite his trademark adlib of “Brrrr!” lining up nicely with our country’s weather, the tour will see the Atlanta rap icon crossing north of the border for the first time in his lengthy career, a visit that’s been too long in the making due to his history of legal troubles.

Gucci spent late 2013 to 2016 incarcerated on gun and drug charges, but since his release, the rapper has managed to stay out of trouble, presumably busy making music for the non-stop release schedule he’s come to be known for.

Though the lack of a Toronto appearance means that Mr. Zone 6 won’t be visiting our country’s own 6ix, Gucci’s temporary status as a Canadian resident may be a gift from one 6 God to another: back on late 2016’s The Return of East Atlanta Santa mixtape, Gucci opened the Drake collab “Both” by rapping “I got so many felonies I might can’t never go to Canada/But Drake said he gon’ pull some strings so let me check my calendar”:
