It looks like a lot of that place could be bulldozed.

And it’s a question we certainly should ask.

This is part of a 12 movement song cycle called KATRINA BALLADS by Ted Hearne. It was premiered on May 31, 2007 at the Piccolo Spoleto Festival in Charleston, SC by the Yes is a World Ensemble (including members of the NMC). Isaiah Robinson, tenor.

The New Music Collective (NMC) is a hybrid of an arts organization devoted to the composition, production, and promotion of new music. We hope to educate the public about new music through concerts, performances, workshops and collaborations with artists of every medium. We are equal parts performing ensemble, composers collective, and concert presenter. We are a non-profit organization under section 501(c)3 of the IRS Tax Code.

Comprised mainly of a small core of Charleston-based composers and performers, the NMC also draws on a "collective" of artists, performers, and composers from around the world. We are committed to expanding the cultural environment of Charleston, South Carolina by both emphasizing the local artistry already in our community, as well as drawing on the creativity of composers and performers from New York City to San Francisco to Australia to Europe.

We are prepared to put the American South on the cultural map of the world in a new way, bringing new and exciting music to Charleston and beyond.
