New Artica was formed in 2005 when Denlin Barmann and Joe Caravalho met each other working in a retirement community. After finding common interests in music and art, the two decided to casually play music which turned into writing songs. Late 2006, New Artica decided to transition from a recording project into what is now a six person band made up of individuals drawing from many different influences. Female vocalist, Chelsea Dowell, complemented the vocals of the baritone male vocalist, Denlin. Matt Upton was added as lead guitarist while Cameron Dailey was recruited to play drums. The last piece was Tyler Zibaie, bringing keys, guitars, and electronic beats. In their first performance together, New Artica competed in a battle of the bands held at the Raleigh Music Hall and won first place. New Artica self-released their first EP made available to all with their eclectic mix of electronic, alternative, and indie pop. 'How the Brain Works Sick' is now available on iTunes and at local stores in North Carolina. Selected tracks from the EP have been played on various college radio stations. Since the release of the EP, the band replaced their female vocalist with Maigan Kennedy, bringing not only an impressive range of vocals, but also cello to the mix of sounds. New Artica is currently working on writing their next EP while looking for support from a label to release a full length album.
