NEKO — Japanese word for "cat" loaded with multiple though not always controlled connotations. Finds entry into the columns of French magazines (Rocksound, Presto!.) in 2003, from then on designating a trio whose instrumental rock music starts circulating with the homemade demo Explicit Lyrics. The band first hits the stage in bars in and around Lille, France, in May 2004. Without a singer, the band's music is immediately assimilated to "post-rock." Curious and eager to please, its members start listening to the bands they are compared with and discover that similarities are undeniable, as much, that is, as differences. The misunderstanding is here to stay (to the usual "Explosions in the Sky? Mogwai? Mono?" the band indefatigably answers The Cure, Girls vs. Boys, the Smashing Pumpkins…). In June 2005, the four-track EP Ghost Tracks is released, casting some further doubt into the hurried listener's mind. Be that as it may, the band goes touring in Northern France, Belgium, and hits its first stages in Paris. In 2006 the band is chosen as one of the best in Northern France by Presto! The trio gets to play in prestigious local venues such as "Le Splendid" and supports bands like 65daysofstatic and Venus. Post-rock or not, the band retreats for some time in order to work on the soundtrack of the medium-length film Les Somnambules, to be released at the end of the year. In 2007 the band chooses to remain discrete and starts writing new material for the following EP. If the preparation takes longer than initially planned, it is partly because the band decides to experiment with guitar loops in order to expand its musical textures. New titles are performed live in 2008 with the few appearances of the band in Lille, Angers, or Brussels. One Hit Wonder! is finally released in May 2009, featuring six new tracks which get the band to be selected for the 2010 "Tour de Chauffe" in Lille, providing it with technical, managerial, and artistic support for a year. The band thus seizes the opportunity of a few residencies to collaborate with artists and integrate videos in its live performances. After supporting Caspian in November 2010, the band spends 2011 laying the foundations of its next EP, finally to be released under the title Radio Edit on January 18, 2013.
