Sounding like the charming sort of hope that emerges from the dark corner of the room, the resonate storytelling of Taylor delivers a live experience that is both sophisticated in its harmony and uniquely theatrical in performance.
The alluring yet disarmingly haunting sounds of Taylor came about when traveling song writer David Taylor returned home to collaborate with fellow musician and long time friend Nick Stewart. Songs penned in places as far afield as a farmhouse in southern England and the muddy tracks of Vietnam, to Amsterdam and Osaka, were finally recorded in a water tank tucked away in the hills of Northern NSW. The unconventional location proved an ideal melting pot for Engineer/Producer Govinda Doyle (Angus & Julia Stone) to blend the vintage tones, classic narrative and distinct modern pop sensibility of Taylor's dynamic six piece band.
The lyrical landscape of singer/songwriter David Taylor's seductive and memorably moody vocal timbre is intensified by the impressive musicianship and Australian music lineage of the band. The line up includes guitarist Nick Stewart, and drummer Geoff Green, from Aria award winning Brisbane band George and features the masterstrokes of Scott French's Mandolin, Ukulele, Trumpet and Melodica.
The release of their debut full length album Warmer in July 2010, coincided with a successful tour of the east coast with Dave McCormack (Custard) as solo support. Since the bands inception they have consistently performed at local and interstate venues and festivals including: Homegrown in the Valley; THAT Festival (alongside You am I and Regurgitator); and supported The Break (ex Midnight Oil & Violent Femmes).
The band also recently expanded their diverse musical and creative performance skills as a part of the Anywhere Festival in Brisbane where they received accolades for Soapbox Theatre's production of Shakespeare's Taming of the Shrew. David was cast in the lead role and composed an original score performed live by the Taylor band.
The polished stage presence that accompanies years of live performance and touring accumulated by the band allows for playful and spontaneous injections of improvisation that are unashamedly entertaining and is fast winning over audiences.
Obscured by myth and misconceptions of geography this Gold Coast band exceeds expectations and has skillfully used the shelter of the skyline and strong support of locals to develop a unique sound that won't remain a secret for long.
