Lil Ma aka Ms. Smith

The new urban girl of today is no longer LL Cool J’s version of the round-the-way girl. Today’s, women are truly bred from the streets. Ms. Smith is doing away with simply settling for being the “Baddest Bi***” and reaching back to the days of Queen Latifah‘s message in the song U.N.I.T.Y which speaks out against men referring to women as a Bi*** or H**. In 2009 Ms. Smith wants to instill in young women the power of being street smart, educated, independent and no longer in need of a Ruff Neck.



Ms. Smith is not your average female rapper, but a cut above the rest. At first glance, you would never guess she was a rapper. In comparison to the days of Lil Kim and McLyte, Ms. Smith represents a different trademark; a uniqueness that most people in the music industry would classify her as simply the best, an artist with direction; “flawless” said Kedar Messenberg (2002) .



She was born Lea Nicole Smith, in Torrance, California. In 1994 her parents relocated to Detroit. It was here that her sincere love for the business of entertainment began to take its form. This 20 year old beauty has been honing her skills since age 10. Performing at local concerts, community events and showcasing her talents throughout the city of Detroit, creating a fan base online and abroad.



Ms. Smith is currently attending College on a full-ride scholarship, majoring in Arts, Entertainment & Media Management with a concentration in the Music Business. Her work ethics are endless. Not only does she attend school fulltime; spends hours in the studio, but she works part-time at a consultant firm, and still manages’ to maintain a 3.6 GPA. Ms. Smith is someone that young girls can truly look up to. She dances, acts and writes her own music. She writes from her real life experiences, while maintaining a positive message for her listeners. She is truly the fresh new face of hip-hop.
