Mr. Saturday Night Special - a heartfelt tribute to the songs of Ronnie Van Zant - it's been a Lynyrd Skynyrd Tribute Band from Italy since so long: more than 10 years with almost same line-up but beninnings dating 1981 with the first gig of Saturday Night Special in the outskirts of Milan.
A double live cd recorded on march 23rd 2006 "An Evening With MR. SATURDAY NIGHT SPECIAL": an entire gig in our hometown.
At the age of 14 the first bending on electric guitar trying to do the intro of Searchin', the tracks of "One More From The Road" literally consumed and now, on that almost destroyed cover, the signatures of Gary Rossington, Billy Powell & Leon Wilkeson and the other Skynyrds when they came in Milano in 1998, the only italian gig tillnow: an interview, a meeting with our guitar heroes and an unforgettable show.
Luca, Roberto and Tony Rotta within the band since highschool, gigs in theaters, schools, small open air fests and band contests and then . Italian soccer team champion of the world for the first time in out lives: 1982.
Some years of oblivion and then a trip to Louisiana but mostly Alabama and Jacksonville, FLA and the return to scene of the crime for a reborned Lynyrd Skynyrd Trybute.
Gianni Melis on bass to form with Tony Rotta one of the most kicking ass rhythm section in town; Ruben on vocals, stolen from 20 years of country and bluesgrass experience because no one can't resist Ronnie Van Zant's Call; a young pianist that gives me chills when it seems that Billy Powell has just reached us on stage: 10 years of gigs reviving the legend of Southern Rock . in forever devotion to masters Gary Rossington, Billy Powell, Artimus Pyle & Ed King .

SATURDAY NIGHT SPECIAL è la Lynyrd Skynyrd Tribute Band: più di 10 anni con la line-up attuale e 25 anni dal primo concerto tributo agli Skynyrd, alla periferia di Milano nel giugno del 1981, proprio col nome di Saturday Night Special / Un doppio cd dal vivo registrato il 23 marzo 2006 "An Evening With MR. SATURDAY NIGHT SPECIAL", un intero concerto nella nostra città.
A 14 anni il primo bending sulla chitarra elettrica, cercando di riprodurre l'intro di Searchin', i solchi di "One More From The Road" consumati e sulla copertina le firme di Gary Rossington, Billy Powell e Leon Wilkeson e gli altri Skynyrd venuti a Milano nel 1998, nella loro unica data in Italia: intervista, incontro con i nostri idoli e concerto memorabile.
Luca, Roberto e Tony Rotta nella band fin dal liceo, concerti in teatri, scuole, all'aperto e i mondiali del 1982.
Poi qualche sciagurato anno di oblio, un viaggio in Louisiana, Alabama e Jacksonville Florida e, al ritorno, la "chiamata alla armi" per la rinascita dei Saturday Night Special.
Al basso Gianni Melis per completare una sezione ritmica che va come un treno e alla voce Ruben Minuto, che dopo vent'anni di esperienza nel country accetta la "missione" di cantare le liriche di Ronnie Van Zant e si scopre uno dei migliori cantanti di Southern Rock in circolazione.
Un pianista di 25 anni - Ricki Maccabruni - anche con i Mandolin Brothers, che è più Southern di tutti noi e mi fa venire i brividi perchè ogni tanto penso che Billy Powell ci abbia raggiunti sul palco.
