A septet of musicians scans the vaults of old rarities in search of lost aural treasures in a devotion seemingly of their own. The result is Morricone Youth, one of the more industrious bands in the spirited New York music scene today. Formed by soundtrack collector & guitarist Devon E. Levins in 1999, Morricone Youth plays music written for film and television by such composers as Lalo Schifrin, Jerry Goldsmith, Quincy Jones, Krzyszstof Komeda, Henry Mancini, Frances Lai, John Carpenter, Peter Thomas, Michel Legrand, and of course Ennio Morricone, to name but a few. Their arrangements run the gamut from spot on interpretations to rocked out orchestrations. Recently, the band has begun writing original material in the soundtrack-esque vein, which resulted in their new album, "Silenzio Violento".

The lineup, which has evolved over the years, consists of Devon E. Levins (guitar), Dreiky Caprice (vocals/percussion), John Castro (bass/vocals), David Spinley (saxophone), Sam Champion (drums) and Jefferson Rabb (keyboards). The members play or have played in many notable bands, including Crash Worship (Caprice), Creedle (E. Levins), The Rugburns (Castro), Big Numbers (Rabb), aMiniature (E. Levins and Champion), The Turn-Offs (Caprice), The DaoSon For (Rabb, E. Levins and Castro) and Pretendo (E. Levins and Castro).

Morricone Youth has in their repertoire a staggering eighty cover songs - the band's deep conviction and passion for film music is clear. Not to mention somewhat of a blessing for they bring back to the pop-soaked and redundant musical airwaves music from another time - soundtracks from Spaghetti Westerns, Italian horror films, Japanese monster flicks, 60's German sci-fi/spy/crime/detective films and television programs, and of course film noir. Whether unearthing these dismissed genres or playing original compositions directly inspired by them, Morricone Youth's aim is true.

"Silenzio Violento" is Morricone Youth's first full length album of soundtrack originals. The album was recorded and mixed in the Fall of 2004 by the legendary Martin Bisi at B.C. Studios in Brooklyn, NY (www.martinbisi.com) and mastered by Fred Kevorkian at Absolute Audio in NYC. Silenzio Violento consists of 14 tracks clocking in just under 60 minutes and is available via the band site (www.morriconeyouth.com), amazon.com or at finer record stores nationwide.

MORRICONE YOUTH also has its own internet radio show hosted by Devon E. Levins since 2007 on EASTVILLAGERADIO.COM every SUNDAY afternoon from 2 - 4 PM EST playing soundtrack hits from the present past and future. Streaming archives of each show are available throughout the week.
