Grey Light of the Season supplants the widescreen sweep of Morgan’s previous work with a new music in miniature. Written across a Massachusetts autumn, the album is a work of suspended animation – of vanishing into the spellbinding glow of October twilight. Wreathes of piano sustain, icy strings, field recordings, and otherworldly slide guitars hover over high-wire finger picking as a detached narrative weaves in and out of classic fiction, pastoral reality, and the space where the everyday and uncanny blur together. Kindred in spirit to the darkly enchanted 1960s folk of Nick Drake and Nico, but wandering where it will, Grey Light of the Season is a transportive Polaroid from Fall past and present.
