the girl was born to parents, her mother a cougar and her father a raccoon, and she was but one when they had planned for two. they sailed for months on the dreary caspian sea until the child grew her tentacles, and then she was set free. swimming in the shallows with her porcupine quills, she wrote ballads and sonnets and songs for the ill, fighting like a soldier for the fish and the whales and the children ashore with their spiny red tails. "and so it is," she thought on a cloudy grey day. "i am a child and i shall always stay that way. nothing can save me, i wish not to be saved. and no one would want me, i like it that way. so leave me to all of my words and my tunes. perhaps, one day, i'll write one for you."
