Absolute Body Control
Influenced by bands from the German and UK electronic scene, Dirk Ivens (synths & voice) formed ABSOLUTE BODY CONTROL early 1980, and was joined by Mark de Jonghe (synths) and Veerle de Schepper (backing vocals). After releasing a track on the "Blitzpop 1" compilation and the release of their first 7" single "Is there an exit?" (1981), wich became a local underground hit, Mark leaves the band. Eric van Wonterghem filled in the gap and became Dirk's new musical partner for years to come. Before they decided to go on as a duo, ABC already appeared on several compilation albums and tapes worldwide. Soon ABC became one of the first Belgian electronic acts who proved to be succesfull also on stage. In 1984 Dirk became a member of "The Klinik", followed by Eric who left after the 2nd album to form Insekt. In 1989 they released their last tape "Tracks" wich contained all ABC compilation contributions so far, but the band was put on non active well before. However, the public intrest was still there and resulted in the release of the first and only ABC cd so far,"Eat this" (1993) on the German VUZ records. Many people re-discovered the band and ABC releases became much sought after collector items. Still, it took them over 22 years to reform and play at festivals like the Tinitus (Sweden) and BIM Fest (Belgium) at the end of 2006. Meanwhile, their entire back catalogue is available (Lost/Found) and Vinyl on Demand (Tapes 81-89). With the release of "Wind(re)Wind" album, wich contains 13 re-recorded versions of their best tracks. followed by the MCD "Never Seen" the next list of liveperformances foloowed alover Europe, USA and Canada, Good to know is new releasedate is confirmed on 1-oktober 2010 !
MONOLITH
Conceptual solo-project of Belgian electronic music veteran and producer
Eric van Wonterghem(ex-KLINIK), MONOLITH has always provided long days of bewilderment to journalists who never really managed to pigeonhole his music in any specific music sub-genre.
Renown for his elaborate electronic music arrangements which speak to both body and mind, MONOLITH takes us on a sonic journey cleverly departing from
his most recent ritual oriented work to explore new territories.
Repetitive loops, hypnotising electronic sequences and carrying rhythmics take you into a multi-coloured journey through electro and industrial landscapes, each time incorporating new exotic elements, using vocal samples and distinctive guest vocalists.
Featuring a more direct song writing approach, our Belgian studio guru meticulous production talent and a depressive apocalyptic central theme,
He effortlessly delivers to us the ultimate hi-energy cocktail of modern urban industrial with some surprising minimal electro/clash tonalities intelligently blending our 80s analog music background (fortified by excellent real time synth performances) with futuristic fx and mesmerising electro sequences. And the addition of female guest vocals by Hilde Ivens, on several tracks widens once more the music spectrum of MONOLITH. A band having the rare privilege to appeal to a very diversified audience, ranging from the Ant-zen harsh ambient/industrial camp through Novamutemore intellectual electronic dance experiments or yet Gigolo Records electro clash gang.
A strongly recommended and uplifting sonic experience.
SONAR
Started in 1996 as a project from Dirk Ivens (Dive / The Klinik / Absolute Body Control ) and Patrick Stevens ( Hypnoskull ) with the aim to create rhythmical noise and dark soundscapes, music with a combination of analogue and digital instruments. Patrick left in 1998 and was replaced by Eric van Wonterghem ( Monolith / Insekt / Absolute Body Control ). The rhythms remind to working machines, the soundscapes to droning planes. The sound of Sonar is made to make you move in another way, to tune you into a hypnotic beat. It is a straightforward sound which goes further on classic industrial but never without an extra dimension of powerful dynamics and tuned electronics. Sonar is looking for a contemporary definition of danceable industrial and tries to discover this by controlling electronic devices. a brandnew release is planned in 2010 !! be prepared.
