The 60s have been essential for nowadays pop music. It brought concepts and postures, along with styles and proposals that found each other odd and kept certain distance between them, despite the delicious and almost dismissible quality they had.

In Brazil, the bossa crew could not stand the jovem guarda rebels, which thought that the bossa guys were too put.



The geniality of Monokini is to join these styles and to find their own identity in the middle of that, with keyboards that recall the easy listening of Sergio Mendes and the elegant pop of Burt Bacharach.

Guitars and basses find the balance between the pop of the Beatles, the irresistible moves of the Jovem Guarda and the electric bossa of Roberto Menescal. Drums and percussion in the exact key between music and rhythm; candy vocals, almost childish, recall Astrud Gilbert and Françoise Hardy; and yet a mood of Phil Spector and girl groups as Ronettes.



The lyrics are naive and innocent, remembering the time where the important things were the good things of the life as the blue sea, the girl of Ipanema and the boy of Sampa.

They had participated of compilations around the world and Mondo Topless, their debut, is one of the most appraised independent records in Brazil.



Os anos 60 foram essenciais para a música pop de hoje. Trouxeram conceitos e posturas, junto de estilos e propostas que se estranhavam e mantinham certa distância entre si, apesar da qualidade deliciosa e quase descartável que tinham.



No Brasil, a turma da bossa não suportava os moleques da jovem guarda, que achavam o pessoal da bossa muito metido. A genialidade do Monokini é unir esses estilos e achar sua identidade no meio de tudo, com teclados que lembram o easy listening de Sergio Mendes e o pop elegante de Burt Bacharach.



Guitarras e baixos acham o equilíbrio entre o pop dos Beatles, a levada irresistível da jovem guarda e a bossa elétrica de Roberto Menescal. Bateria e percussão no tom exato entre a música e o ritmo; vocais doces, quase infantis, lembram Astrud Gilberto e Françoise Hardy; e ainda um clima de Phil Spector e girl groups como Ronettes.



As letras são ingênuas e inocentes, lembrando a época em que o importante era as coisas boas da vida como o mar azul, a garota de Ipanema e o garoto de Sampa. Já participaram de coletâneas por todo mundo e Mondo Topless, sua estréia, foi muito festejado em seu lançamento e ainda é um dos álbuns independentes mais aclamados do indie brasileiro.
