For some wise people of the antiquity, the monocordio (monochord) was the instrument of God, who tightened and loosened the instruments only string, changing the chords and tones from sharp to low in order to harmonize the Universe.
Underneath this idea, everything which exists around us, including ourselves, is music; music which condenses and dissipates, which floats in the air, invisible, waiting to find a receptor.
Perhaps each one of us is a species of the monocordio; when we meet and come to know each other we sometimes seem to create musical chords, or sometimes we simply become out of tune. What is it that makes us vibrate? I don't know, but I suppose that all of humanity unknowingly produces a grand musical chord which incorporates itself into the Universal Symphony.
Monocordio is a musical project which tries to shape this idea about music and existence. It is an experience of daily intimacy where I sing sounds based on what I feel, and the way in which I perceive the world.
In 2001, after a long journey through south-east Mexico, and after receiving the news that I was going to be a father, I composed Monocordio's first songs. I had decided to breakaway from everything I knew about making songs and began to start again. One weekend I isolated myself from the world in order to compose and record a model of what would be my first album: m0n0c0rd10. The album was edited by Antdoto in 2002. m0n0c0rd10 was a magical album, it opened many doors and it's songs were heard on various radio stations such as Radiactivo, Imagen, and Ibero Radio, where it was album of the week. The album even reached cinema: "Amar es Combatir" played in the movie "As del Precipicio" (Tere Surez/2006) and was also nominated at the Diosas de Plata for best song for a motion picture.
Three years later I began to record my second album titled "La Hora del Tiempo", an emotional project produced by Seor Gonzlez on which I invited various friends who collaborated to make the polyphonic ensemble of Monocordio (Luis Alberto Ledezma, Jos Manuel Aguilera, Martn Durn, Rafael Herrera, Laura Vzquez, Lino Nava and Alex Otaola, among others). This album saw Monocordio jump from the recording studio and on to the stage. Now returning to the radio with more force, this time on Reactor 105.7 and also on television, where Once TV requested the tracks from "La Hora del Tiempo" to be used as the theme songs for the series "Fonda Susilla". In 2006 I was invited to take part in the EMI Music series about EP's "Cul es tu Rock?", leading to the production, again with Seor Gonzlez, of "El Primer Rayo de Sol", an EP of seven songs about the primary emotions which give feeling to the rest of our lives. From this album came "Siempre te Busque".
There presently exists an intimate and polyphonic Monocordio consisting of Laura Vzquez, Martn Durn, el Sr.Gonzlez, Santiago Ortiz, Adrin Lpez, Mara Emilia Martnez and myself. The group has played in various national venues including el Vicio, the Hard Rock, the Expo Sound Check 2006, the Feria of San Marcos in Aguascalientes and the Vive Latino 2007 in the Foro Sol. Following these shows I can only say that we have the most beautiful and sensitive audience that has ever existed. Well, this is only a little bit of what has been the story so far…thank you for listening to Monocordio.
