Molly Malone's has been owned and operated by the same Irish family for 32 years. Walking into the place, you'd think a Dublin Pub was miraculously transported to Los Angeles. This local institution has been featured in such movies as Leaving Las Vegas, Patriot Games, and Life without Dick. The walls of the pub are covered by over 70 paintings done by noted Irish portrait painter Neal Boyle. Molly Malones has a long (over 30 years) standing tradition of showcasing the finest musical talent in the Los Angles area. The club initially featured Irish troubadours performing drinking songs and traditional Irish music. The program has evolved to include mostly original music from up and coming songwriters and light bands. The focus is on rootsy, listenable music with strong vocals and talented side musicians. Most styles can be heard at Mollys at one time or another however Molly's does not feature hard rock or metal. Molly's has a casual atmosphere and warm, local feeling and it is not unusual for special guests to appear. Several artists have been signed to recording contracts after performing at the club. Guest artists who have appeared include; Michelle Shocked, Joan Osborne and Lenny Kravitz to name a few. Los Angeles Times: "Even before it was Irish Molly Malone's Pub, the bar at 575 Fairfax had history. There are rumors that this was one of the first pubs to be licensed after prohibition. The walls are dark, covered in Irish memorabilia and art. There are shelves lined with books and, generally speaking, everything that isn't made of wood is green---except for the beer, which is never green, even on St. Patrick's Day. Beer is serious here. The air has a comfortable smell of beer-soaked wood, a scent that makes many wax nostalgic. Lots of people who come in fro the airport make this their first stop. There is also a large contingent of neighborhood regulars and local hipsters. .No matter what you think of the population when you walk in the door, after a couple of Jameson's Irish whiskey, all the blokes start to look like Liam Neeson. Molly Malone's is known as a hangout for the music industry. There have been quite a few bands that have been signed by record labels out of here. A sign on the wall says" Dublin, 40km." Some would say it's closer." - LA TIMES
