The name “Butterfly” best symbolizes who I am as an artist and human being because I have grown from a cacoon and have transformed myself into the strong woman that I am today. I have been through many trials and tribulations as most of us have, but now I can soar and spread my wings and “fly like a butterfly.” I am 27 years old and from a small city in Cleveland, TN. I am the second oldest of two siblings. I have a twin brother, an older sister and I am a single mother to my 6yr old daughter Jamiya. I have always had a sincere passion for music and singing. My passion is so strong that people, who know me personally, get a kick out of me because I sing out everything word I say at times. I began singing at a very early age or for as long as I can remember; although I was very shy and bashful. One of the first songs that I sang when I was about 4 or 5 yrs old; was “Thanks For My Child” by Cheryl Pepsi Riley. My mother had me sing in front of her company one night to show them I had it and that it passed over to my genes from both her and my father. Ever since there was no stopping me. I grew up singing and performing because singing is my family's greatest hobby and talent. Many people refer to us as the “Jackson’s” or “Wynan’s.” Any time there are a few of us together; we form a choir, bring out the keyboard, drums, microphones and sing! My solo career began when I joined the church choir, which was led by my late "Uncle Rod" who was a very gifted Gospel artist and Minister of Music. One of my greatest accomplishments was being named "Most Talented" by my Raider classmates during my senior year of high school. I have performed in many events and showcases such as, club scenes, talent shows, school choirs, church choir, weddings, community events. In 2006 I participated in “Chattanooga Idol/ Voices of Chattanooga.” From there I went to Birmingham, AL to try out for American Idol. Although I did not make the final cut, that didn’t stop or discourage me. It only made my passion to fulfill my dream even stronger. I completed my debut album “Like a Butterfly” August 2008 produced by Mike Kalombo aka “Mozart” (now signed with So So Def), Myself, ML and Dave Keyz; with features from Keke(of SK), Mel Da Artist aka “Mr. Merideth,” Nonsense, Nami, and J Da Chosen. The album expresses both my intimate and personal life experiences as well as my struggles.
I was also blessed to feature on these upcoming artist albums. I’ve also recorded songs with Jermaine Purifory ;who was one step away from making it to the last and final cut when “American Idol” aired in 2010, Reggie Wellington, Lil Peanut featuring Bun B of UGK, Mane Frame, Yung JV, SK, Tre-80, and many other artists in the surrounding areas.
In 2009 I performed in front of recording artist Rasheeda. In 2010 I opened up for R&b group Silk and Kandi of Xscape/Atlanta Housewives. Cleveland Daily Banner also recognized me three times in 2010 for “Local Emerging Artist” and at the end December I was in the Newsmaker/Banner Hall of Fame of 2010. January 2011 I decided to officially become a part of the family with "Diamond Bag Entertainment!"
I have been honored to work with the following producers, promoters and DJ’s; DJ Mixx, Block (Blocklife Records), Cedrick, Darryl aka "Black", D.Scott, Red Koleone and Freddie Macintosh aka "Freddie Mac"; who has been affiliated with Nappy Roots and Outkast; all of Chattanooga, TN, Warren Johnson of Memphis, TN , Boo McCleary of Athens, TN, Avery Johnson of Atlanta, GA who helped produce the single “Never Scared” by Bone Crusher.
A few people who has a huge impact and influence on who i've become would be my family, friends, and of course my daughter/princess Jamiya; If it wasn’t for her and my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ I probably wouldn’t be here today.
I am very thankful to God for blessing me with the gift of vocal talent and for allowing me to be an inspiration and role model to others. Through a lot of prayer, faith, belief from all of you, dedication and hard work, it is now time for this “Country Gurl” to shine like a VVS studded diamond and fly like a butterfly.
