Mista Blaq

The interest in music has always been a powerful force for the German - born Mista Blaq. Early on, he was influenced by the Motown sound of Al Green and Marvin Gaye. Perhaps a defining moment was when he first heard the debut CD of "A Tribe called Quest" and the cut "A Peoples Instinct Travels": It brought out the natural rapper in Mista Blaq.

Always musical as a child, Blaq left home at the age of sixteen and began to work seriously on his music. At this early age, he also realized the dangers of the hip hop lifestyle and decided to put his energy into music. It was also at this time that Blaq decided to enter the US Army and is stationed in Giessen, Hessen, Germany.

Blaq put together and fronted a group called "Group Therapy." But the group was pulled in too many directions and after the release of their well-received CD, they split up. Shortly thereafter, Blaq is introduced to the producers of L9 and they hit it off right away and begin recording almost immediately. After the first recording session, L9 signed Blaq and went into serious development of the upcoming debut release.
