MINGO SALDIVAR:



With a career that spans over four decades, Saldivar is known to be one of the most dynamic and electrifying accordionist today. A two time Grammy Nominee and A Recipient of the prestigious "National Heritage Award". An award given to such artists like; B.B. King- Wanda Jackson - Bill Monroe - John Lee Hooker - just to name a few. Mingo Saldivar is among great company.



Because of his unique stylized dancing moves and the way he plays his accordion slung below his belt line, moving it back and forth as he performs, Mingo Saldivar , has been given the name "The Dancing Cowboy" by his fans.



A Texas native, born in 1936, on the outskirts of San Antonio. Saldivar was playing the drums and guitar by the early age of 11. Just a year later Mingo learned the Upright- bass ( tololoche') ,and then mastered the button accordion. The rest as they say "Is History". First learning Conjunto, a genre known to the region of South Texas. Saldivar played with several different groups including "Los Guadalupanos". Where in 1957 wrote his first his song "Andan Diciendo" ("They are saying"). In 1975 he formed his own group Mingo Saldivar Y Los Cuatro Espadas (The Four Swords).



While still devoted to the spirit of Conjunto tradition, Saldivar ,a great fan of all styles of music including; Country, Rhythm and Blues, and Rock-n- Roll, was able to integrate these sounds into his own Conjunto Music Style. With such an original sound Mingo Saldivar would become a household name in the Tejano/ Conjunto world. Saldivar was one of the first to perform his songs in Spanish and English which made him an instant cross-over hit with all audiences.



Playing in Venues like; Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, 1996 Olympics, President Clinton's Inaugural Gala, and Washington D.C. 's 4th of July Celebration, Saldivar has proven to be an Accordion Legend and as reciepient of the National Heritage Award, one of the highest honors awarded to the best in thier field, Mingo Saldivar is a National Treasure.
