A little about me

Hi friends and strangers, my names Mike. I'm from Orange County, moved to riverside for a year, and now back in orange again trying to finish school and just taking it easy.

Of course I love going out with my friends, even though I don't do it as much as I want to. For instance taking a drive down to a nice little place, and shooting the shit over a burger and a coke. Then we'll head over to a hooka bar and get elated over strawberry hooka and a small ice cream sundae, and talk about our lives, our past, and good times up ahead and just be silly in general. If theres a guitar nearby by the end of the night I'll dip into the background and play a little music while everyone runs around. A few times I've even been known to play half the songs i've written, very softly, over the next couple hours while everyone is falling asleep.

Or picture this: Going over to someone's place with my xbox, and hooking ours up together, then grabbing a few extra friends and playing all night on 2 TV's to a few beers and a pizza. Its so much fun that way because everyone is yelling and screaming and having a ball all night long - well except for john - he gets sleepy sometimes but thats only because he isn't very good at halo 2 yet. Don't worry bud you'll get there!

Midnight openings to go see xmen and all the other nerd movies. Half the fun is the excitement everyone has before seeing something they've been waiting to for so long, and just being sillyheads waiting in line under the stars with a bag of popcorn and a lawnchair, or even better yet if the line is inside the building!

Staying up alllll night, petting my puppies, writing songs, watching a funny DVD, arguing with my friends over the internet (woo!), and all that silly stuff. I miss going to the beach. I used to go a little more often but I need to get into it again. I like to go in the daytime and hang out with a hot dog and drink with all my friends, then as the night goes on warming up by the campfire for more fat saturated eats, and then eventually whipping out the guitar and singing songs over the fire. I also love going to a party and taking a room over at 2am by means of my acoustic guitar and a few cover songs with my friends, and never stopping until the sun has come up and everyone else has long since gone to bed. Its even better when I open my eyes after playing with them closed a few songs and realizing i'm the only one still awake.

I love doing weird things that normal 'grown ups' aren't supposed to do, like staying up all night with drunk friends and playing our own version of 'whos line is it anyway', although we've only done that a couple times.

I try to live by this motto: "You must learn to let go of everything you fear to lose". Some days I'm stronger than others. Some days I'm weak. Some I feel enlightened as if I can see the world, the universe, and our lives for what it all really is. It puts a smile on my face.

My main passion is music (which is why I went with a band profile instead of a regular one). I have about 150 rock/alt songs, alot of which I wrote in my bedroom during my highschool years. I'm also in a band with friends, used to be a trance dj/producer, and like to play cafes, artwalks, bars, and stuff like that. Its alot of fun and I'll never stop doing it until the day I die. If you like any of the tracks on my page or just want to know more about me, you can visit the band's website at www.ProjectPS.com or check out "Project PS" in my top 8.

I'm also a HUGE computer nerd. Back in 'the day' all I ever did was play and write music, to the point where I would skip showering, shaving, eating, drinking, sleeping for days on end. Somewhere along the line I realized I need to think about the future (say it with me slowly and with an evil voice, "Moneyyyyyyyyyyy"), so I started trying to focus my obsessive/focused nature towards computers. Eventually I learned how to do alot of cool stuff, like write simple video games, write websites. I even found an SDK that would potentially let me write applications for my XBOX (yes I modded it, but no that isn't cool. if I started programming on it no human being would ever hear from me again). If you want to see some websites I've done, check out these links (hover over them for more info): www.MikePeralta.com, www.ProjectPS.com, Project PS' Myspace, www.DJMikeyP.com, www.HappySlap.com, www.ETalentManager.com, and the newest one: www.ShowStubs.com

If you're interested at all in computers and artificial intelligence, check this out. I am a programmer on the side, and sometimes I mess around with "Neural Networks", which are an attempt at modeling how the human brain thinks. Its basically a way of holding hugely complex formulas that process data in generalized manners. For this one program in particular, I had a picture of a triangle, and I was trying to "evolve" the neural network to be able to draw the triangle on its own. Just like babies to adults, the neural "nets" learn very slowly. The picture below is a snapshot in the early stages of its learning, where it was barely starting to understand that the triangle was black and should be somewhere towards the center. Check it out ! :)

Theres just something about it that strikes me as beautiful. Maybe its knowing that you're looking at the so called "thoughts" of an artificial primitive mind, i dunno.

Now check this animation out - Its of a different neural network trying to evolve the same picture of a triangle. The only difference is that this "net" is alot "dummer", because is had less neurons to think with, I didn't give it any short term memory (long explanation), didn't use a "Sigmoid" function to smooth its internal thinking (another long explanation, but thats why the colors change solidy instead of fuzzily), and didn't normalize its input so the intersections of different colors are jagged instead of warped/smooth (yet another long explanation but basically its input is "ok look at this pixel, what color do you want me to draw it?" and its output is "this color").

I learned to write my own neural networks by reading the tutorial at this page - http://www.ai-junkie.com/ann/evolved/nnt1.html, read it if you're interested.

I also used to love watching Tranzor-Z as a kid. Does anyone remember this show?

Services

In my spare time I do a few things for extra cash. If any of them interest you just send me a message.

Web design - I do websites anywhere from the very simple (and cheap) to the very complicated. I can hook you up with something as simple as a homepage, or as complicated as a database driven community. At the moment my part time gig is doing the entire web-based database and employee interface for a successful refi company.

DJ (parties) - If you're throwing a party I have thousands of mp3s and can get ahold of any requests you may have, as well as utilize your entire cd collection if you want. I've got a full PA and a computer system hooked into it for one kick ass system.

DJ (trance) - Me and a buddy like to spin trance parties, so if you and your friends are into trance and the whole euro scene, send me a message and we can work something out. We usually work for very very cheap for trance-only parties because they are so much fun for us to do.

Recording (musicians) - Are you a songwriter or some kind of performer who needs a good demo? I can come down to YOUR place with my very portable recording equipment, get a good session in, then mix and finish it all from my house. Whether you're just in need of a demo, or maybe you're a guitarist/singer who needs some synthetic drums/bass/strings to back you up, I can handle it. When all is said and done I can get you a CD with raw tracks on them as well as the final mastered WAVs, MP3s, and even help you get them online.

Video - Need someone to film your wedding, party, performance, etc? Or maybe you just want a silly little music video or short film shot and edited? I can take care of that too, as well as give you a finalized DVD or even upload the videos to your website or youtube
