Michy G is Michelle Gavilondo, originally from LI, a bit eclectic, riff oriented acoustic rock, has grown up playing guitar and piano by ear sponging in classic rock, and spitting out her own songs till she started playing in original bands. Nexta Kin was her first and that gave her a taste of artistic expression. She's been playing out clubs and cafe's for well over 10 years. Rythmic and hooky infectious tunes are what she brings to the table. Her voice is unique. No comparison is really fair. 2 years ago she teamed up with Janet Montalbo and hasn't left her side since. The almighty blend has taken them from bars and cafe's in LI to the first CD debut Oct 20th. Chic n' Martini has gone from a cover duo playing bars and such to a force to be reckoned with as an original duo. They are set out to change the perception that Long Island is for cover and tribute bandsalso the myth that female rockers are no longer relevant. Check them at at Amazon and iTunes under Chic n' Martini. The songs on the album represent songs written by either Janet or Michy and the tunes featured here are Michy G penned for the CD. Update: Our first review of our live show that I've seen online at http://billfoolery.com - reads like this:

It began with a Saturday night stop-over at The 50 Yardline Bar in W Babylon. I had enough time to pop in for a quick listen to Chic n' Martini on the way out to John Judd at ET Quiggs in Bellmore.

I first heard Chic n' Martini at the Open Mic night a year or two ago at Lefty's. It's been a while and I didn't get much of a listen back then.

Cn'M consists of Janet Leto and Michelle Gavilondo on vocals guitars and percussion; bass player, Tony Montalbo I believe it was, also performed. I was informed that Ms. Gavilondo was feeling under the weather but that was interesting news because the vocals were dynamite and the performances were tight and rehearsed. That makes sense because they recently published a CD, Color This Moment, and I purchased one as I was hastily cutting out mid-set.

Chic n' Martini have an engaging act with no-fooling-around type talent. It did not happen to be blues but they were original and they appealed to my taste for more creative forms of rock. Their original stuff is good. Their vocals are really good as two clear capable voices handled solo's well and harmony's beautifully. I suggest you catch a show if they decide to get gigging more frequently around here.michyg at 2008-03-31
