Born in Paris, France in 1985, Michael Valeanu has been playing the guitar since he was 14 years old. He has studied with Wolfgang Edener, Yves Brouqui, and Eric Daniel. Valeanu attended the Jazz Camp Les Enfants du Jazz under the direction of Stephane Kochoyan, and participated in master classes with Ray Barretto, Elvin Jones, Michael Camillo, and Lucky Peterson.After graduating from Conservatoire National de Bourg-la-Reine with a diploma in Jazz studies, he moved to New York to attend the New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music where he worked with Lage Lund, Jonathan Kreisberg, Ari Hoenig, Charlie Persip, Charles Tolliver, and Robert Sadin. Artists with whom he has recently collaborated include Greg Hutchinson, Tigran Hamasyan, Omer Avital, Mark Giuliana, and Ben Wendel.
